PURPOSE:To produce light-weight slags by adding TiO2 to blast furnace slags and cooling or water granulating the same. CONSTITUTION:To molten blast furnace slags there is added 2 to 15% by weight of TiO2. When TiO2 is substantially dissolved in blast furnace slags, water is injected thereto immediately to quench and pulverize the same. By the addition of TiO2 the specific gravity of the slags is lowered by 0.7 to 1.1. With the increase of the temperature of injected water, the specific gravity of ths slags is lowered greatly. These light-weight slags are effectively utilized as carriers for light-weight aggregates, soils for cultivating vegetables, ground reforming materials, adsorbing materials and adsorbing agents. |
