PURPOSE:To raise the efficiency of heating of the side edges of a slab in hot rolling, by correcting the vertical warp of the front end of the slab to reduce the air gap of an edge heater. CONSTITUTION:When the slab 1 whose front end is warped upward is conveyed to the edge heater 4, profiling rolls 6 are moved forward in accordance to a signal from a material detector until the rolls 6 come into contact with the end of the slab 1. The slab 1 is conducted along a guide 18-1 and levelled by rolls 13. Both the side edges of the slab 1 are heated while passed through the U-shaped heating coils of the edge heater 4. Since the slab 1 is corrected of the vertical warp and conducted along a guide, the air gap between the side edges of the slab and the heating coils is kept small and constant. Therefore, the efficiency of heating of the side edges of the slab is high. |
