PURPOSE: To reduce the stress concentration at a splice by providing a one-piece engine inlet acoustic barrel comprising an inner surface sheet, a core structure, and a solid face sheet outwardly from the barrel side, and extending the splice from a forward end to a rear end. CONSTITUTION: A one-piece engine inlet acoustic barrel is provided with an integrated engine-mountable flange 20 in which an engine frame is mounted on a rear end, a fireproof wall ring frame fitting flange 21, an L. E. to a forward end and a ring frame fitting flange 22. It comprises a perforated surface sheet 25, a honeycomb core 25 and a solid surface sheet 23. The surface sheets 23, 25 are formed of graphite/epoxy, and the core structure 24 is formed to be of honeycomb type so that at a narrow single fore-to-aft splice, or no splice at all, is present in a finished product. The splice may be integrated. The acoustic modal content remains unaffected, thus, preserving a high degree of liner effectiveness, increasing the total active acoustic area of the barrel while decreasing its weight, and increasing its durability. |
