PURPOSE:To provide the process which is suitable fro a medium or small city and being low equipment cost, is easily maintained and administered and provides a substitute natural gas of a heating value of 11,000kcal/Nm<3>. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing a substitute natural gas for a city gas containing methane as the major component by subjecting a hydrodesufurized petroleum-derived hydrocarbon to low-temperature steam reforming, which process comprises treating the low-temperature reformed gas comprising methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, etc., and obtained by the low-temperature steam reforming with a membrane separator to obtain a gas containing methane as the major component on the unpermeated side, treating the gas containing carbon dioxide and hydrogen as the major components and obtained on the permeated side with a hydrogen PSA equipment to obtain a hydrogen gas, and mixing this hydrogen gas with the gas containing methane as the major component to obtain a raw material gas for the substitute natural gas. |
