PURPOSE: To enhance the bactericidal effect of a bactericide and to obtain a low-cost bactericidal compsn. usable on industrial and medical scales and having high reliability by adding a pyrrolidone deriv. to the bactericide consisting of a specified monoamine or polyamine and aldehyde. CONSTITUTION: A bactericide is blended with an effective amt. of a pyrrolidone deriv., preferably 2-pyrrolidone or polyvinylpyrrolidone so as to enhance the bactericidal effect of the bactericide and the objective bactericidal compsn. is obtd. The amt. of the pyrrolidone deriv. is 0.001-5 wt.%, especially 0.1-2 wt.% of the amt. of the final compsn. The bactericide consists of a prim. to quat. monoamine or polyamine having at least one optionally substd. N atom of an amine functional group and aldehyde, especially glutaraldehyde. The amine is preferably represented by one of formulae I and II (R1 is alkyl, R2 is H, alkyl, etc., and each of A and A1 is alkylene). This compsn. is effective in the case where iodine or its deriv. is not contained. |
