<p>PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing durene so designed that, in producing durene continuously using multi-stage catalytic bed with incorporation of catalyst-regenerating process, the variation in the composition of the outlet product is minimized to enable the outlet product to be obtained with stable composition at all times. CONSTITUTION:The objective method is such that, using at least two reactors packed with catalyst, xylene or pseudocumene or a mixture thereof is methylated to produce durene continuously. In this case, for each reactor, each specific reaction time zone and catalyst regeneration time zone are continuously repeated, and the operation is conducted by holding reaction stop time zone on an appropriate time zone within said reaction time zone. And, the respective temperatures of catalytic beds in transferring to the next reaction time zone following completion of the reaction stop time zone are regulated to any desired levels.</p> |
