PURPOSE:To provide a polymer porous membrane having a specific membrane thickness, a specific porosity and a specific average through hole diameter, containing a specified particulate or fibrous rigid material, giving a solid electrolyte membrane when immersed in an electrolyte solution and immobilized, and not causing the crush of the porous membrane to lover the impregnation rate of the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:An ultrahigh mol.wt. polyolefin is dissolved in a heated solvent such as liquid paraffin in a concentration of 1-15wt.%, and homogeneously dispersion-mixed with a specific amount of particulate rigid material having an average particle diameter of 1-30mu or a fibrous rigid material having a fiber diameter of 1-30mum and a fiber length of <=10m. A sheet is formed from the dispersion, and quenched to form a gel-like sheet. The gel-like sheet is subjected to the extraction of the contained solvent with a volatile solvent, and subsequently stretched at a temperature below its melting point to provide a polymer porous membrane having a thickness of 1-100mu, a porosity of 30-90%, and an average through hole diameter of 0.001-0.7mu and containing the particulate rigid material or fibrous rigid material in an amount of 1-10 particles or fibers per 10cm<2>. |
