The invention relates to hard-surface cleaning compositions containing a binary mixture of organic solvent having a boiling point equal to or above 90.degree.C, and an organic chelating agent containing neither phosphorous nor nitrogen, such chelating agents being selected from compounds having the formulae (I) to (VII) hereinafter described, or mixtures of compounds (I) to (VII).
