PURPOSE:To restrain wasteful power consumption in a standby state to the minimum by providing a means for setting the temperature of a thermal fixing device when an external device stands by in a communication means with the external device. CONSTITUTION:The fixing device 9 thermally fixing a toner image formed on recording paper S is constituted of a heat roller 9a, a pressure roller 9b, a halogen heater 9c provided inside the roller 9a, and a thermistor 9d detecting the surface temperature of the roller 9a. A printer controller 26 is connected so that it can communicate with the external device 28 through an interface 27. When the controller 26 receives a command for specifying controlled temperature in the case of standby which is set in serial communication in the interface 27, it stores the value of the controlled temperature in the case of standby, which should be controlled, in a RAM 26c and controls the fixing device 9 in terms of temperature. Thus, the appropriate temperature of the thermal fixing device in the case of standby is set up under some conditions such as frequency in use and the power consumption in the case of standby, and the wasteful power consumption is restrained to the minimum. |
