Process for obtaining sheets or strips of 5000 alloy exhibiting a low mechanical anisotropy between the lengthwise direction and that at 45 DEG to the rolling direction. According to the invention the final cold rolling run must be greater than 50 % (and preferably 55 %) and/or the speed of leaving the rolling mill higher than 800 m/min. The products obtained are particularly suitable for the manufacture of lids for beverage cans.
