Material able to be processed and shaped like wood

The inventions relate to materials able to be processed and shaped like wood and a process for their production and also an intermediate for the process or the material. It is an object of the inventions to show a possible way of making purposeful use of wood processing residues from the wood-processing industry and thus to significantly reduce the disposal problem. For this purpose, there is proposed a process for producing a material from wood processing residues in which the wood processing residues are premixed from sub-amounts of predetermined differing particle size and are uniformly mixed with water; water glass, vermiculite powder and kaolin are mixed into the moist mixture; casein glue is added to this mixture and the intermediate obtained is cast or poured into a mould or moulds and is predried without pressing; a part of the surface of the workpiece has a thin layer ground off and the material is then subjected to a second drying process. Also proposed is a material comprising a mixture of wood processing residues of predetermined differing particle size; a commercial casein glue in aqueous dispersion; an additive of water glass and vermiculite powder and kaolin. Both proposals solve the abovementioned problem.
