The invention relates to a method for dispersing liquids, suspensions and heterogeneous fluids which is distinguished, in particular, by more efficient dispersion of the gas to be introduced into the medium and by better distribution of the gas phase in the reaction vessel, more effective flow prevailing through problem zones. The dispersion process essentially takes place in two stages. The invention further relates to a stirring and gas admixture system by means of which the method is implemented and is intended, in particular, to be used in aeration tanks for aerating waste water and sewage sludges, with the purpose of improving the efficiency of such plants. A stirring body, open at the bottom, is preferably arranged centrally in a reaction tank below the liquid level on a drive shaft and rotates. Below the stirring body there is a gas cushion which is supplied via the drive shaft, fashioned as a tubular shaft, or is supplied separately. The stirring body is of perforated construction, the design of the perforation being capable of being varied in terms of type, size and density, and carries transport blades (paddles) on its rim. Dispersion takes place at the perforation and at the stirring-body rim.
