A piece of convertible furniture for sitting or lying on is described, having a double-carriage arrangement and a back which is pivotable between an upright position and a horizontal position. This back is upholstered in such a way that this upholstery forms in the horizontal position of the back an extension of the lying area which, owing to the design of the double-carriage arrangement and the articulation of the back, guarantees a lying height corresponding to the sitting height.
