<p>The apparatus of this invention forms and binds fibrous bulk material into bales and comprises bale forming means (12) for forming the material into an elongated continuous mass. The bale forming means (12) has a bale-forming compartment (50) and material flow restricting means (54) for restricting the movement of the material. Auger feeding means (10) for conveying the material into the bale-forming compartment (50), and bale binding means (14) for receiving the mass of material from the bale-forming compartment (50) and binding the mass into discrete bales, are provided. The improvement of this invention comprises the provision of compacting rollers (40, 41) whereby material is conveyed through the compacting rollers (40, 41) into the bale-forming compartment (50) and compacted against the mass of material. The compacting rollers (40, 41) and the material flow restricting means (54) cooperatively function to create the mass of material in a compacted condition with the material being added to the mass of material and compressed thereinto by the compacting rollers (40, 41).</p> |
