The present invention is directed to quinolinecarboxylic derivatives of the formula: <IMG> (I) wherein Z is <IMG> or <IMG>, in which R1 is a hydrogen atom, or a lower alkyl, R2 is a hydrogen atom, hydroxyl or a lower alkyl and R3 is a hydrogen atom, hydroxyl or an amino, and a pharmaceutical salt thereof. The compounds have excellent antibacterial activities and are useful as antibacterial agents.
