<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a composite heat-insulating material which is not contracted while hot and capable of maintaining a necessary heat-insulating property by combining a thermally expandable heat-insulating material and a thermally contractable heat-insulating material and absorbing the contraction of the latter with the expansion of the former. CONSTITUTION:A sheet-shaped core 2 consisting of a thermally expandable heat-insulating material (e.g. a manufactured sheet consisting of sepiolite, thermally expandable unexpanded vermiculite, ceramic fiber and ethylenic multicomponent copolymer) is coated with a blanket 3 consisting of a thermally contractable heat-insulating material (e.g. alumina ceramic fiber) to constitute a blanketed composite heat-insulating material 1. This heat-insulating material 1 is applied on the heat-insulating wall of a furnace as shown in another figure, the heat-insulating wall 11 in the furnace shell 10 is constructed by laminating the heat-insulating material 1, and the exposed parts of the cores 2 of the respective heat-insulating materials 1 are directed toward the shell 10. Consequently, the blanket 3 of the heat-insulating material 1 is contracted while hot, the core 2 is expanded, and the heat-insulating material tends to expand as a whole.</p> |
