Guide catheter for medical purposes which can be flexed

In order to design a guide catheter for medical purposes which can be flexed and which comprises a working channel and a tubular jacket having a chamber extending in the longitudinal direction of the jacket for accommodation of a free-flowing medium, the jacket being elastically expandable by filling the chamber with the medium, and a winding of essentially unstretchable material which is wound helically around the jacket at a defined pitch angle at the height of the chamber relative to the longitudinal direction of the jacket, such that the catheter has a simple structure and permits flexing, so that different radii of curvature can be achieved in different longitudinal areas of the guide catheter, it is proposed that the individual turns of the winding are less displaceable relative to one another in a partial angular range of the jacket circumference in the axial direction than in another angular range of the jacket circumference, and that the winding has areas with different pitch angles in the longitudinal direction of the jacket.
