PURPOSE:To smoothly produce the polarizing film consisting of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer having specific or higher syndiotacticity and having high polarizability and excellent wet heat resistance by using a film consisting of this PVA polymer and uniaxially stretching the film in a hot water bath having a specific temp. CONSTITUTION:The film consisting of the PVA polymer having >=55% syndiotacticity is used and is uniaxially stretched in the hot water having the temp. satisfying equation 0<TP-TW<=20 [where, TP=the dissolution temp. ( deg.C) of the PVA polymer in hot water, TW=hot water bath temp. ( deg.C)] in the process for production of the polarizing film by uniaxially stretching the PVA polymer and dyeing the film. The film produced from the PVA polymer having >=55% syndiotacticity is required to be used as the raw film consisting of the PVA polymer. The polarizing film having the high polarizability and the high wet heat resistance is not obtainable if the syndiotacticity is <55%. |
