PURPOSE:To provide the polarization nondependency type tunable optical multiplexing and demultiplexing circuit which can sufficiently suppress the polarization dependency of light loss, be simplified in constitution, and eliminate difficulties in manufacture, and performs polarization nondependency type TE-TM mode conversion. CONSTITUTION:This circuit is equipped with a TE-TM mode converter 1 which has two terthinals and performs the TE-TM mode conversion of a light signal having wavelength corresponding to the frequency of a surface acoustic wave and a polarization beam splitter 21 which splits the light signal into two polarized wave components; and the polarization beam splitter 21 has a 1st terminal 22 for inputting the light signal, 2nd and 3rd terminals 23 and 24 through which the inputted light signal is split into two polarized wave components and outputted, and a 4th terminal 25 for outputting the light signal, and the 2nd and 3rd terminals 23 and 24 of the polarization beam splitter 21 and respective terminals 5a and 5b of the TE-TM mode converter 1 are connected to each other. |
