Process for the treatment of biorefuse or the like

A process for the treatment of materials or mixtures of materials which contain biodegradable substances or their precursors, in particular of biorefuse, is proposed. The materials or mixtures of materials are initially substantially decomposed enzymatically in an enzymatic hydrolysis stage (3) before they are subjected to a chemical/physical decomposition in a chemical/physical hydrolysis stage (12). The enzymatic hydrolysis stage (3) is preferably followed by a solid/liquid separation (5), with the liquid which has been separated off being fed to a bioreactor (6) for biodegradation of the organic substances, while at least part of the solids which have been separated off is returned via the chemical/physical hydrolysis stage (12) in a circulation to the enzymatic hydrolysis stage (3) or, before removal from the circulation, chemically/physically hydrolysed and washed with process water which is then again subjected to enzymatic treatment. Since the chemical/physical action takes place on the solid only after the enzymatic decomposition is substantially complete, the consumption of operating means and auxiliaries for the chemical/physical decomposition can be distinctly reduced. <IMAGE>
