发明名称 OPTICAL COMPENSATION SHEET AND ITS PRODUCTION AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT FORMED BY USING THE SAME
摘要 PURPOSE:To improve the visual field angle characteristic of the TN type liquid crystal display element and to provide the high-grade display element having excellent visibility by incorporating at least one kind of optically isomerized materials into the element and providing the element with optical anisotropy. CONSTITUTION:The optically isomerized materials induce isomerization by absorption of light. Azobenzene compds., hemithioindigo compds., etc., are used as these compds. The liquid crystal display element of the sheet with which desired optical characteristics are obtd. is constituted by arranging the optically isotropic element RF having the optical axis inclined from the normal direction of the liquid crystal cell between a polarizing plate B and the liquid crystal cell. This optically isotropic element RF is a double refractive body which polarizes light more largely as the angle at which light is made incident is larger with respect to the optical axis. The light L2 which is elliptically polarized by transmission of the liquid crystal cell after diagonal incidence on the cell is modulated to the original linearly polarized light by the phase delay effect at the time of passing the optically isotropic element RF. The liquid crystal display element with which the same transmittance is obtd. even at various diagonal incident angles and which has no dependency on the visual angles is realized.
