The object of the invention is to achieve, for a gas premix burner, a low-pollution start-up procedure during which, compared to normal operating behaviour, no increased pollution levels are generated. This is achieved, according to the invention, by the burner (1) being started up in a capacity range which is below the smallest settable nominal capacity range, while incorporating the measure known per se of running with an increased proportion of gas during start-up. <IMAGE>
