A transmission system is disclosed comprising a transmitter and a receiver which are interconnected by a transmission link. The receiver comprises an arrangement A for determining at least one code error criterion on the basis of the received data. A code error criterion is determined by means of an error pulse generator 1 and a time pulse generator 2. The arrangement A comprises, for example, a first counter 1A, which is incremented by the error pulses a1 and a second counter 2A which is incremented by the time pulses a2. An evaluation circuit 4 of the arrangement A takes over the counts of the first and second counters and computes 2 code error criterion from these counts when either counter has reached a predetermined maximum count. Furthermore, the arrangement A comprises a logic circuit 3 which sets the first and second counters to their initial counts when either has reached its predetermined maximum count. Irrespective of the frequency at which code errors occur in the signal, the arrangement A makes a continuous computation of code error ratios, code error rates or numbers of code error blocks possible with a constant statistical certainty in a short time interval. <IMAGE>
