<p>PURPOSE:To prevent erasure gaps from being written continuously if an erasure gap already exists at the write starting position when writing data after writing the erasure gap at the time of additional writing after pre-reading. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic tape controller 10 is connected between an upper- level device 20 and a magnetic tape device 30 and is provided with a data buffer 12, a write modulation circuit 13, a read demodulation circuit 14, and a main control part 11 for controlling them. The main circuit part 11 controls the operation of the data buffer 12 and the magnetic tape device 30. Then, pre-reading operation is performed when reading data, a magnetic tape is rewound one block more than the number of pre-read data blocks when additional write instruction is received after the pre-reading, and further one block rewinding continues if the rewound last block is an erasure block or positioning is made to the gap between blocks immediately after that if the rewound last block is a data block.</p> |
