PURPOSE:To divide the processing into a processing in the abnormal state of a transmission node or in the abnormal state of an oscillation circuit and a processing in the sleep state of a master station by using a carrier-off detection circuit to clearly distinguish a sleep state through stopped communication from a fail safe state on the occurrence of a fault. CONSTITUTION:When sleep preparation start command is not outputted from a master station 2, carrier sense is executed based on an operation monitor signal obtained by sampling reception data obtained from communication data on a multiplexer communication path 4 by 1st slave stations 3a-3n and when the sleep preparation start command is outputted from the master station 2, carrier sense is directly executed based on a carrier of reception data obtained by fetching communication data on the multiplexer communication bus 4.
