PURPOSE:To delete a character, for which it is not possible to appear at the top of a sentence as a character candidate, from the first candidate and to reduce the wrong recognition of a character just for this deleted character. CONSTITUTION:The coordinate data of a handwritten character inputted from a coordinate input device 12 are stored in an input data buffer 274 by an input part 22. A character recognition part 24 recognizes the characters of coordinate data in this input data buffer 274 by using a dictionary 51 for character recognition and stores provided character recognition candidates in a recognition data buffer 275. When a sentence top instruction flag 273 is turned on and this inputted handwritten character appears at the top of the sentence, a recognized result operation part 25 decides whether a character stored in a sentence top inhibited character table 52 exists in the provided recognition candidate characters or not and when such a character exists, the relevant candidate character is deleted from the recognition data buffer 275. The first candidate of the recognition candidate characters is displayed through a display data buffer 277 onto a display storage part 27 by a display control part 27. |
