The problem of the invention lies in creating a very rigid cutting mechanism in which the cutting force passes approximately directly through the centre of the axes of the eccentric wheels in order to be able to provide optimum support there. At the same time, a slight spring action of the system and minimum "piercing" after the cutting-through are achieved. In this drive, an eccentric is provided for the requisite cutting stroke. This eccentric is connected to the plunger (8) via lever (6) and connecting rod (7). The deflection point of lever (6) and connecting rod (7) is connected via a strap to a further eccentric (4) for obtaining a rapid up and down movement. The solution is characterised in that the eccentric (4) and the eccentric (3) are arranged together on an eccentric spindle (1) and are also driven together by the drive eccentric wheel (2), and a linkage which is in operative connection with the free end of the strap (5) is linked to the eccentric (4). <IMAGE>
