Sludge dewatering press having a sludge dewatering chamber, pressure plates, pressure tube and dividing cords arranged in the sludge reception chamber, which dividing cords, during the dewatering pressing operation, divide the sludge volume to be dewatered into self-draining volume regions, the sludge volume being compressed to give a dewatered sludge cake with flexible deformation of the dividing cords arranged therein by formation of pleats and the like and the sludge cake then being broken up by stretching the dividing cords. The dividing cords are made up of a flattened, knitted or woven covering tube having a drainage cloth arranged therein. At least one dividing cord end is installed for filtrate discharge. The dividing cords are held in the pressure plates by their ends. The covering tubes of the dividing cords have, in the region of their ends, flange-forming holding elements which are connected to the covering tubes by frictional and/or positive connection. The dividing cords are inserted into flange chambers with the holding elements and are connected to the pressure plates so as to seal. <IMAGE>
