PURPOSE:To provide the optical isolator which is high in the S/N value of a signal quantity S and a noise quantity N, and also easily incorporated in a laser module and reducible in size. CONSTITUTION:This optical isolator is an optical isolator 1 which is coupled with a semiconductor laser 11 having a plane of linear polarization; and a Faraday rotator 5 and a magnetic material 4 which applies a magnetic field to its periphery are incorporated on the incidence side and a polarizing optical material 6 is incorporated on the projection side. Specially, this optical isolator 1 is coupled by fitting a polarized wave direction guide 3 to the semiconductor laser 11 having the plane of linear polarization; and the Faraday rotator 5 is provided on the incidence side preferably having its incidence and projection surfaces slanted to the optical axis and is surrounded with the magnetic material 4, the polarizing optical material 6 is also incorporated preferably having its incidence and projection surfaces slanted to the optical path, and the polarizing optical material 6 is formed more preferably of metal dispersed glass.
