A marking substance consists of a dry mixt. of 97-99.5 wt.% of chalk having a particle size of smaller than 50 microns and predominantly greater than 2 microns and 0.5-3 wt.% of a water-soluble binder. Pref. the chalk has 50 wt.% with a particle size greater than 2 microns; or 75 wt.% with a particle size greater than 1.5 microns. The binder is methyl cellulose or methylhydroxyerthyl cellulose, and the binder content is 0.9-1.1 wt.%. The mixture is mixed in an amt. of 550-650g with 1,00g water before use. The mixt. is then sprayed onto the soil under a pressure of 3-4 bar.. ADVANTAGE - The mist. is ecologically unobjecionable.
