The invention relates to an electric panel-type heater having a front plate made from natural or artificial stone for use as a decorative heat source for living rooms and business premises. The panel-type heater according to the invention consists of a box-shaped heater housing (4) whose cover is constructed from a front plate (1) made from natural or artificial stone. Arranged in the heater housing (4) is a panel-type heating element (3) which bears against the front plate (1) made from natural or artificial stone and which is supplied with electric current via electric plug-in or sliding contacts (9; 11) located thereon and in the heater housing. It is advantageous in this case that the heater can be manipulated (handled) very simply, i.e. is easy to transport, to mount, to assemble, to repair and to service. By avoiding bores or notches in the front plate made from natural or artificial stone, the danger of material stress cracks in said plate is minimised. The heater body (4), which bears tightly against the wall of a building, causes only slight convection, as a result of which discoloration and soiling of this building wall are largely avoided.
