Special piston for piston engines

The combination of piston, piston pin and connecting rod hitherto used in most instances (for example in all common internal combustion engines) is expensive and heavy. The weight adversely affects the service life (due to the accelerations in high-speed piston engines) and limits the maximum possible engine speed. The special piston is intended to be lighter and cheaper to manufacture and to be useable in existing engines without major modifications. The special piston replaces the three parts - piston, piston pin and connecting rod. It is of simpler construction (cost saving) and is, of course, of lighter construction (reduced wear, higher speeds). It has only one bearing (2) connecting it to the crankshaft. The rotation from the centre axis (4) of the cylinder in the course of one crankshaft rotation is made possible by the spherical design of the horizontal part sliding in the cylinder liner (3). The special piston is primarily suited to internal combustion engines, the construction of which can otherwise remain essentially unmodified. <IMAGE>
