A switch device includes a plurality of stationary contacts formed on an insulating substrate 44, a plurality of contact holders 402 supporting movable contacts 68 capable of sliding on the insulating substrate for independently contacting with and separating from the stationary contacts, a common holder case 41 for the movable contact holders 402 fixed to the insulating substrate 44, and a positioning device 77, 78 provided between the insulating substrate 44 and the holder case 41 for positioning the insulating substrate and the holder case relative to one another. To facilitate assembly, the contact holders 402 and the holder case 41 have cooperable projections (88, Fig 13) and recesses (89) to hold the contact holders 402 to the holder case 41 at a position where retractive operating members 23 can be inserted into the contact holders 402. When the holder case 41 is fixed to the insulating substrate 44, the contact holders 402 are biased upwardly by the resilience of the movable contacts 68 into sliding contact with upper guide walls of the contact holders 402 causing the projections (88) to disengage from the recesses (89). <IMAGE>
