PURPOSE:To produce a metallic fiber having high porosity, large specific surface area, and light weight by rendering the part forming pores on the surface of the fiber base body nonconductive and then electroplating the fiber. CONSTITUTION:When the fiber base body of the metallic fiber part where the hollow part 3 is communicated outside through pores 2 is conductive (e.g. conductive carbon fiber), the fiber base body is dipped in a liquid containing a nonconductive material (e.g. synthetic resin beads) so that the nonconductive material is deposited in spots on the fine pores 2 which communicate with the inside of the fiber. If the fiber base body is not conductive (e.g. polyethylene fiber), the surface of the fiber is treated to be conductive, and then a nonconductive material is deposited in the spots as above described. Then the fiber is subjected to electroplating to form a metal layer having several mum to several 100mum thickness, and if necessary, the fiber base body is removed. Thereby, the metallic fiber having fine pores 2 in the metallic fiber part 1 is obtd. |
