ADDITIVE FOR LUBRICATING OIL, PRODUCTION OF THE SAME, AND LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION CONTAINING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject additive excelling in oxidation resistance and having performances as an additive to engine oil without the necessity for removing solid matter by reacting a specified metal (hydr)oxide with a specified diol compound and a specified carboxylic acid and subjecting the product to a specified treatment. CONSTITUTION:A (hydr)oxide of a bivalent metal [e.g. Ca(OH)2] is reacted with a diol compound of a boiling point of 120-260 deg.C and/or its alkyl ether (e.g. ethylene glycol) and a 1-8C carboxylic acid (e.g. acetic acid). The obtained mixture is hydrolyzed in the presence of an oil-soluble organic acid, its salt or its ester derivative (e.g. alkyl salicylate), and unreacted diol compound and/or its monoalkyl ether are removed from the reaction mixture.
