PURPOSE:To provide a new method for low-polymerization of an alpha-olefin by using a chromium catalyst in which method the formation of a high polymer is inhibited while maintaining the activity of the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A chromium catalyst comprising a chromium salt, an amine, and an alkylaluminum compound is used to the low-polymerization of an alpha-olefin in the presence of an unconjugated diene. When an alpha-olefin, especially ethylene, is low-polymerized by this method, a reactional product consisting mainly of a trimer, especially 1-hexene having high alpha-position selectivity, can be selectively obtained in high yield while inhibiting the generation of a high polymer. Here, this method provides great industrial profits. |
