PURPOSE:To provide the subject process and apparatus whereby the deposition of carbon due to an insufficient supply of steam can be detected early, the poisoning of the catalyst can be detected early, and the exchange of the catalyst in the reformer can be inhibited. CONSTITUTION:A heat-insulating vessel 32 having a catalyst packing layer 31 for performing partial reforming of the fuel gas by the heat of the gas itself is provided in the fuel feed line of a reformer 10. The differential pressure DP across the layer 31 is measured. DP beyond the normal range reveals that the deposition of carbon occurs. The temperature of the catalyst packing layer is measured, and the temperature drop DT smaller than the normal range reveals that the poisoning of the catalyst occurs. |
