PURPOSE:To properly and automatically discriminate a tool life by analyzing an AE (acoustic emission) signal transmitted by a tool during machining, numeri cally expressing an advancing condition of wearing the tool, and discriminating the tool life by this numerical degree. CONSTITUTION:In metal machining, an AE sensor for receiving an AE signal, transmitted from a tool during machining, is provided to input an output signal of the sensor to a tool life discriminater. Here by multiplying a peak value of leading l amplitude of an AE waveform in a preset detection time by a constant of about 0.7 to 0.9 and further by setting the value of adding a fixed voltage level to a follow-up threshold value, a number of half waveforms larger than this follow-up threshold value is counted. Interruption for a preset time or more, after decreasing the AE waveform of exceeding the follow-up threshold value smaller than the follow-up threshold value is set to 1 event, to obtain a number of oscillations per 1 event. Based on a number of time where a mean number of oscillations in the preset detection time is increased larger than the preset value, a life is decided. |
