PRODUCTION OF DIHYDRIC PHENOLS

PURPOSE:To provide an industrially advantageous method for the production of a dihydric phenol in high para-selectivity and yield to hydrogen peroxide scarcely causing a decrease in cyclic ether. CONSTITUTION:A phenol is made to react with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a cyclic ether and a crystalline titanosilicate catalyst. The reaction is carried out by supplying the phenol, the cyclic ether, hydrogen peroxide and a polar solvent separately or in the form of a mixture to a stirring tank reactor while continuously extracting the reaction liquid from the reactor.
