PURPOSE:To obtain the subject carbon black, excellent in uniformity, water repellency and high gas feeding ability and useful as a gas diffusion electrode, etc., by mixing the carbon black with a powdery polyolefin and fluorinating the resultant mixture under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:This carbon black is obtained by uniformly mixing carbon black with a powdery polyolefin such as PE, heating the carbon black and powdery polyolefin in an inert gas atmosphere and heat-treating the uniform mixture while keeping the heated mixture in a fluid state, thereby coating the surface of the carbon black with a polyolefin thin film and subsequently fluorinating the polyolefin thin film. |
