PURPOSE:To obtain a cariostatic agent of new type for preventing formation of bacterial plaque by taking advantage of glucosyltransferase inhibiting activity. CONSTITUTION:A cariostatic agent contains 0.0001-0.5wt.% calculated as dry weight of an extract having glucosyltransferase inhibiting activity obtained from half fermented tea leaves or post-fermented tea leaves such as oolong tea or Paul tea. An extract obtained by using water alone or a mixture of water and a polar solvent (e.g. lower alcohol or acetone) in an arbitrary ratio is used as the extract. The cariostatic agent is utilized for preventing dental caries in the dosage form, e.g. hygienic agent of oral cavity such as dentifrice, mouth washing solution or troche and food additive. |
