摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To reduce a roll mark and spalling generated on a work roll by making the barrel length of a divided backup roll near the center of a work roll longer than the barrel length of a divided backup roll near the end of the work roll. CONSTITUTION:A mechanism supporting a work roll 1 by backup rolls 20A, 20B, 20C, 20D, 30A, 30B, 30C divided into seven parts in the axial direction is provided in at least one of upper and lower roll assemblies. An independent load detecting device and a press-down device are arranged on each divided backup roll and the barrel lengths of divided backup rolls near the center part of a set of rolls in an axial direction, e.g. rolls 30B, 20B, 20C are made longer than the barrel lengths of the divided backup rolls near the end parts of a set of rolls in an axial direction, e.g. rolls 20A, 20D. As a result, since the plate crown and shape of a rolled stock 13 during rolling can be detected without time lag, the control accuracy of the plate crown and shape of the rolled stock 13 is greatly improved. Besides, the roll mark and spalling generated in the work roll 1 are reduced and surface flaws can be prevented from occurring.</p>
