A device for transforming an input voltage into a desired a.c. output voltage is provided with a transformer, in particular a toroidal-core transformer (annular-core transformer, toroidal transformer), with a transformer core and primary and secondary windings disposed on the transformer core. An electronic circuit to which the input voltage is connected supplies such a signal to the primary winding(s), that the desired output voltage is obtained on the secondary winding(s). The electronic circuit has a control input to influence the signal supplied to the primary winding. A control circuit comprises a measuring element to measure the action of the transformer, the control circuit feeding a control signal to the control input of the electronic circuit if the measuring element indicates an imbalance in the transformer, so that the transformer is brought into a balanced state via an adjustment of the signal supplied to the primary winding. The measuring element is designed as a sensor for detecting the magnetic field in the transformer.
