The invention relates to a device for orienting objects - such as bottles - which are fed onto a conveyor belt in an upright position and the cross-sectional dimensions of which differ in two axial directions which are perpendicular to one another. The device comprises an auxiliary drive member, which moves past one side of the conveyor belt along a path running substantially in the conveying direction, and an opposite guide wall, which extends along the other side of the conveyor and is flexible in the transverse direction. The auxiliary drive member can be moved at a higher speed in the conveying direction, and at the upstream end of its movement path is at a distance from the flexible guide wall, in such a manner that an object which is held at that end between the drive member and the guide wall and the largest cross- sectional axis of which forms an angle with the conveying direction, is gripped by both the drive member and the guide wall and, in the process, is subjected to an orienting moment by the auxiliary drive member which causes the bottle to rotate about its axis. <IMAGE>
