PURPOSE:To obtain the title sensor wherein it is small-sized and lightweight and it can detect an acceleration with high accuracy by a method wherein an opaque ball having a finer diameter is arranged so as to be capable of being levitated freely at the inside of a transparent hollow spherical body having a fine diameter as well as a point light source and a multielement photodetector are provided in positions which are symmetric with respect to the center of the spherical body. CONSTITUTION:A point light source 4 and a multielement photodetector 5 are faced so as to be symmetric with respect to the center of a transparent hollow spherical body 2, and a beam of light from the point light source 4 which has been blocked by an opaque ball 1 appears as a shadow on the face of the multielement photocletector 5. The relationship between the shape of the shadow detected on the detector 5 and the position of the opaque ball 1 or an acceleration acting on the opaque ball 1 is illustrated below. When no acceleration in the transverse direction exists and the ball 1 is stable, the ball is situated in a gravitational field and the shadow on the detector 5 is symmetric and large. When a sensor is tilted or an acceleration is applied to the ball 1, the shadow of the opaque ball 1 is moved to a direction in which the ball 1 is moved and its size is changed. When quantities of light detected in individual places on the detector 5 are compared, the position of the ball 1, i.e., the direction of the acceleration acting on the ball 1, can be detected. |
