PURPOSE:To enable an optical fiber laser to dispense with a long optical fiber and to be lessened in manufacturing cost and size by a method wherein a specific optical loop is provided, light is oscillated and shifted in wavelength in the optical loop, and light of specific wavelength is emitted out of an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:Light of wavelength lambdaa emitted from a pumping light source 1 is inputted into an optical isolator 4 through the intermediary of a wavelength multiplex coupler 4. Light emitted from the optical isolator 4 is made to travel through an optical loop composed of a rare earth-loaded optical fiber 3, an optical switch 5, a branching device 6, a wavelength multiplex coupler 2, and the optical isolator 4, and light of wavelength lambdab+DELTAlambda is emitted out of an output fiber 8 through the branching device 6. That is, light of wavelength lambdaa is turned to have a reverse distribution in the rare earth-loaded optical fiber 3, whereby natural emission light of wavelength lambdab is emitted. A high power light of wavelength lambdab is made to travel around through the optical loop concerned, whereby light is oscillated and shifted in wavelength to have a wavelength of lambdab+DELTAlambda, and light of wavelength lambdab+DELTAlambda is emitted from the fiber 7. |
