A packaging for a flat object comprises a support with a planar section, on which the object is intended to rest, retention means for enclosing or fixing the object in a direction parallel to the surface of the support, and a hinged lid for covering that side of the object which is remote from the support. The support comprises a first support part with the planar section of the support, and a second support part which is hingedly connected to the first support part. The second support part extends along at least a section of the periphery of the first support part. The hinge pin between the first and second support parts is oriented substantially parallel to the planar section of the first support part and crosses the edge of the first support part at two different places. The first support part, the second support part and the lid may each be made from a sheet material.
