Cutting tool having excellent wear resistance and strength, which is made of a cermet based on TiCN which has a structure comprising: from 5 to 30 % by volume of binder phase, consisting essentially of Co and Ni, the remainder being essentially a hard dispersion phase, wherein the hard dispersion phase can selectively contain the following phases (a), (b) and (b'), or (a), (a') and (b), or (a), (a'), (b) and (b'), wherein the phase (b) or the phases (b) and (b') make up from 25 to 70 % by volume of the total structure. The structure comprises: (a) a hard dispersion phase having a duplex and/or triplex phase structure containing a core (nucleus), where the core is formed of (Ti,M)CN, (a') a hard dispersion phase having a single-phase structure, which is formed of (Ti,M)CN, (b) a hard dispersion phase having a duplex and/or triplex phase structure containing a core, where the core is formed of TiCN, and (b') a hard dispersion phase having a single-phase structure and formed of TiCN, where the hard dispersion phases (b) and (b') make up from 25 to 70 % by volume of the total structure. |
