The present invention is in the area of coating materials and relates to new binder emulsions which contain, in addition to binder, water, emulsifiers and, if desired, organic solvents, the emulsifiers being reaction products of ring-opened, epoxidised carboxylic esters, which products contain alkylene oxide units. The present application furthermore relates to processes for the preparation of such aqueous coating binder emulsions and the use of such coating binder emulsions for the preparation of coating materials.
