In a rinsing machine, the concentration of an active ingredient is kept constant by regular addition of active ingredient during operation. In the case of an interruption in operation, there is no addition of active ingredient so that the concentration (C) of the active ingredient reduces during the time of interruption time (t1) according to an e function. After the interruption has ended, a surge dosing (SD) follows, during which the active ingredient concentration (C) is raised to the initial value (C0) again. During the interruption time (t1), a counter is counted up non-linearly temporally, the counting function being complementary to the temporal course of the concentration (C).
